Queen Consort Alexandra of the United Kingdom
Her Serene Highness Princess Alexandra Caroline Marie Charlotte Louise Julia of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg was born on December 1st 1844 to the parents Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg and Princess Louise of Hesse-Kassel. Princess Alexandra was the second child and eldest daughter of Prince Christian and Princess Louise, with her eldest sibling Prince Frederick (later became King Frederick VIII of Denmark), and her younger siblings, Prince Wilhem (later became King George I of the Hellenes), Princess Dagmar (later became Empress Consort Maria Feodorovna of Russia), Princess Thyra (later became Crown Princess of Hanover), and Prince Valdemar.
In 1853, Alexandra's father, Prince Christian, was chosen to be the heir to the throne of Denmark. Princess Alexandra was then styled Her Highness Princess Alexandra of Denmark. In 1863, Princess Alexandra's father became King Christian IX of Denmark. From then on, she was styled as Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra of Denmark.
In 1861, Princess Alexandra met her future spouse, Prince Edward of Wales, heir to the throne of the United Kingdom and eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Consort Albert of the United Kingdom. Prince Edward and Princess Alexandra were introduced by Edward's elder sister, Princess Royal Victoria of the United Kingdom, Crown Princess of Prussia. It wasn't until 1862 that Edward proposed to Alexandra. The couple wed in 1863, the same year that Alexandra's father became King of Denmark, at Windsor Castle, and from that day on, Princess Alexandra was the Princess of Wales. The couple held the title of Prince and Princess of Wales for 37 years, until the long reign of Queen Victoria was over and the couple became the King and Queen Consort of the United Kingdom in 1901. Their marriage was unhappy, as Edward had many affairs, one of the more popular mistresses, Alice Keppel, was a great grandmother to Camilla Parker-Bowles, who was a mistress of Prince Charles of Wales. Camilla is now married to Prince Charles as well. Princess Alexandra remained loyal throughout the whole marriage.
Not even a year since the Prince and Princess of Wales marriage, Alexandra gave birth to a son, Prince Albert Victor Christian Edward of Wales in 1864. In 1865, Alexandra gave birth to a second son, Prince George Frederick Ernest Albert of Wales. Prince Edward and Princess Alexandra had their first daughter, Princess Louise of Wales in 1867, followed by their second daughter and fourth child Princess Victoria Alexandra Olga Mary of Wales in 1868. The couples last daughter and fifth child, Princess Maud Charlotte Mary Victoria of Wales in 1869. Alexandra gave birth to her sixth and last child, Prince Alexander John of Wales in 1871. Prince Alexander John did not survive, and died one day after birth from being born premature.
The Prince and Princess of Wales eldest son, Prince Albert Victor, became the Duke of Clarence and Avondale in 1890, and was engaged to Princess Victoria Mary of Teck. Queen Victoria, Prince Albert Victor's paternal grandmother, thought that Princess Victoria Mary of Teck would be a suitable match for Prince Albert Victor, since he was expected to be the heir to the throne of the United Kingdom, after his father, Prince Edward of Wales. Just after a few weeks of the engagement, Prince Albert Victor died in January of 1892 of a influenza pandemic that swept through Great Britain. Princess Alexandra, along with the rest of the British Royal family, was devastated. The couple married in 1893 at St. James Palace in London. Queen Victoria gave the title of Duke of York to George, and therefore, Princess Victoria Mary was the Duchess of York. In 1894 the couple had their first son, Prince Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David of York, who later became King Edward VIII for 11 months after abdicating from the throne to marry a divorcee, Wallis Simpson. After his abdication, Prince Edward became the Duke of Windsor. In 1895, their second son, Prince Albert Frederick Arthur George of York, who became the Duke of York, and King George VI after his brother's abdication. In 1897, the Duke and Duchess of York had their first daughter, Princess Victoria Alexandra Alice Mary of York, who was popularly known as Princess Mary. Prince Henry William Frederick Albert of York was born in 1900, along with Prince George Edward Albert Edmund of York in 1902. Prince George and Princess Victoria Mary's youngest child, Prince John Charles Francis of York, was born in 1905, and died at the young age of 13 in 1919. Prince George became King George V in 1910 and reigned for 25 years, after his father's death. King George V died in 1936.

Since Princess Louise was a granddaughter of a sovereign of the United Kingdom and daughter to the heir of the throne to the United Kingdom, the couple received a peerage, and the Earldom of Fife was given a higher title and was created the Dukedom of Fife. After marriage, Alexander and Louise were styled as the Duke and Duchess of Fife.
The couple had three children, Alistair Duff, Marquess of Macduff in 1890, who was a stillborn child. In 1891, the couple had their first daughter, Princess Alexandra Victoria Alberta Edwina Louise of Fife, and who later became the Duchess of Fife and Countess of Macduff in her own right. In 1893, The couple had their second daughter and third child, Princess Maud Alexandra Victoria Georgina Bertha of Fife. After Louise's father became King of the United Kingdom, in 1905 Princess Louise became the Princess Royal, a title given to the eldest or only daughter of a sovereign of the United Kingdom. The last holder of this title was Princess Royal Victoria the Crown Princess of Prussia, Empress Consort of Germany and Queen Consort of Prussia, who was the eldest daughter and first child of Queen Victoria. Princess Royal Victoria died in the same year that her mother Queen Victoria died, which was 1901. Princess Louise died in 1931 at age 63.

Princess Victoria was greatly close with her brother, King George V and remained a companion of her parents until their deaths. In 1935, Princess Victoria died at the age of 67. Prince Carl and Princess Maud became the King and Queen Consort of Norway in 1905, and had their only child, Prince Alexander Edward Christian Frederik, who became King Olav V of Norway after his father's death in 1957. Princess Maud died in 1938 at the age of 68, six days before her 69th birthday.

In August of 1902, the couple celebrated their coronation and were crowned King and Queen Consort of the United Kingdom. King Edward may not be one of the most famed sovereigns of Great Britain, but he certainly did his job well and brought his country and people into a modernizing world. King Edward's reign was short, as it only lasted nine years, from his death in 1910. At the dying King Edward's bedside, Queen Alexandra allowed one of King Edward's favourite mistresses, Alice Keppel, and one who could keep him sane while no one else could, stay with him as he was dying. Queen Alexandra's son, Prince George, Duke of York and Cornwall, and Prince of Wales, became King George V after his father's death. Alexandra had a youthful image through most of her elderly years, but during the first world war, her age had caught up with her. Queen Alexandra herself died on November 20th 1925 at the age of 80, from a heart attack.
Her Majesty Queen Alexandra was a loyal consort of King Edward. She was truly supportive of her husband, King Edward VII, and her legacy still lives on today.
